The Body Coach

Back in 2020, ustwo Studios hired me to lead the iOS engineering effort on a greenfield health and fitness app for The Body Coach. I led a team of six engineers to ship it ahead of a critical sales deadline, reaching #1 in the UK App Store with a 4.8-star rating.

Following a successful contract, I joined The Body Coach full-time in 2022, progressing from Principal Engineer to Senior Engineering Manager to my current role as Head of Engineering. Some of my achievements so far include:

• leading the transition from an external agency to an in-house mobile team, designing the technical interview process and managing hiring and knowledge transfer
• modernising the deployment infrastructure with self-hosted CI/CD runners for iOS and Android, enabling multiple daily releases and cutting build costs
• working with product to prioritise high-value features that directly improved user retention by 10%
• launching a web-based subscription model and B2B sales flow using Stripe, increasing ARPU by 20% and opening a new revenue stream
• scaling the engineering department from 3 to 10 engineers while maintaining low attrition, with new hires deploying to production within their first week
• promoting a writing culture using RFCs and one-pagers, reducing re-work and improving delivery speed across the team
• driving a company-wide security overhaul — MDM rollout and Cyber Essentials Plus certification — unlocking new enterprise revenue opportunities
• championing a mobile accessibility initiative to meet WCAG and EU guidelines, implementing automatic captioning and broadening the product’s addressable market
• maintaining 99.99% service availability and a 99.9% crash-free rate on mobile throughout periods of high engagement
